March 11, 2018 @ 10:00 pm

Susanna Barlow, is currently studying in the Masters of Fine Arts program at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art in Norway, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta. Recently she has been artist in residence at Museum Klöster Bentlage in Germany and visiting artist at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. She has received a number of grants and awards such as the Royal Canadian Academy for the Arts/C.D and the Howe Graduation Award for Art and Design, given to one graduating student across Canada per year. Her work shows in solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada, USA, Germany, Austria, China and Japan. She has even been featured in Canadian Art Magazine.

Barlow’s work as a mountaineering guide in Greenland and the west coast mountain range of Canada has served as field research for her creative pursuits. This lived experience of working closely with the land and returning to the urban environment after each guiding season forms the conceptual thrust behind Barlow’s artistic practice. Through visuality, Barlow aims to explore the parameters of our relation to ecology, and furthermore, how shifts in this relationship impact identity and social behavior.
